What's the most interesting place you've ever traveled to?
I must say that the most interesting place that I ever traveled to
is the home of Princess Sayako (Nori no miya), the daughter of
Emperor Akihito of Japan.  I found this interesting because there
aren't very many people that can say that they've met a real-life
princess.

If you could have any job in the world, what would that be?
I'd like to have Donald Trump's job -- what can I say, he has a
beautiful finacee and more money than he could ever spend.

Where's your favorite pau hana spot?
Kincaid's Restaurant:  I really enjoy going to a place where the
bartender(s) and waitresses know your name (is that a good thing
or a bad thing?) -- they really make me feel at home.

Name one thing you're really passionate about.
My career -- I guess I am passionate about my career because I
equate success with the position that I hold in my job (I think I'm
doing well so far).

One thing that most people don't know about you.
I was a pretty good fisherman during my teenage years.  Most
people that I hang out with nowadays wouldn't know this fact,
since I have no tan and I never go to the beach.

What's the most interesting place you've
ever traveled to?
Memphis, Tennessee.
Imagine an Asian walking around in
Memphis--home of Elvis (Yeehah)

If you could have any job in the world, what would that be?
The ice cream taster at Ben and Jerry's.

Where's your favorite pau hana spot?  Listening to local music at
Kapono's

Name one thing you're really passionate about.  I really enjoying
working with kids.  It's a joy just looking at a child's face when
they finished a race or worked out a school assignment.

Why did you join the Young Business Council?  I liked the idea of
working with other business professionals and meeting new
people.  Sharing ideas with other and learning from one another.

Who is your role model and why?  My parents.  Taught me to
respect others and treat others as how I would like to be treated.
They molded me into the person I am today.

One thing that most people don't know about you.  I USED TO BE
6 FEET TALL AND SKINNY.  Nah, I am a music nut.  I enjoy all
types of music but I lean more to Hawaiian and Country.
DARA YOUNG
Company:  Hilton Hawaiian Village
Title:  Public Relations Manager
Age:  35 (December 2005)
What do you enjoy most/least about your job?
Most: there's always something exciting happening at the hotel,
which is the world's largest Hilton by number of rooms.  Least: if I
had to choose, it would be the number of hours.  But hey, doesn't
everyone work long hours?

If you could have any job in the world, what would that be?  Sports
agent, just like Jerry McGuire. I would kick T.O.'s butt into shape!

Who is your role model and why?  Oprah.  She has presence,
pizazz and a plethora of money. She is her own woman, is not
afraid to speak her mind and is a champion of justice. And she
makes a late-night host beg for 16 years...yah!

Why did you join the Young Business Council?  Honolulu's young
business community deserves to have an organization whose
purpose is to help its members expand their business skills,
acumen and contacts.  What's more, and organization with
members from a broad cross-section of industries. It's so easy to
talk shop with someone else in your industry, but to truly be a
well-rounded business person, it helps to know about many other
industries, and how we all work together in Hawaii.

What do you think Hawaii leaders should do to improve (select
one: culture, arts, business, social life, economy, etc.)
The cost of
doing business in Hawaii -- insurance, worker's compensation,
taxes -- you name it.  In other areas, businesses are helping to
improve culture, arts and social life in Honolulu.

What's the most interesting place you've ever traveled to?
Sydney, Australia.  It's fascinating, fun, exotic...yet lots of
English-speaking people.  It's definitely the shining star of the
southern hemisphere with the best damn zoo I've ever seen.  And
did I mention Shiraz wines that they don't sell in the states?
Yuuuum!

Where's your favorite pau hana spot?  Any place with really cold
Heinekens. Sadly, sometimes that's my own living room.

Name one thing you're really passionate about.  I'm very
protective of my down time and any time I get to spend with my
other half.

One thing that most people don't know about you.  As the only
woman on the UH football statistics crew, I know a few things
about the sport.
What's the most interesting place you've ever
traveled to?
Japan.

If you could have any job in the world, what
would that be?
Real estate investor/
developer.

Where's your favorite pau hana spot?  Pau hana?  I'm always
working 'til late!  Actually, anywhere that has great drinks and a
view of the ocean.

Name on thing you're really passionate about.  Lately, it's been
learning about wine and wine collecting.

Why did you join the Young Business Council?  For the networking
opportunities with individuals from various sectors, and to
develop professionally.

Who is your role model and why?  Too many to choose one, but if
I had to pick, I'd say Dee Jay Mailer (CEO of Kamehameha
Schools).  She started out in a specific career track, and diligently
elevated herself to executive positions in various industries.

One thing that most people don't know about you.  I was the class
valedictorian of my elementary school.
What do you enjoy most/least about
                            your job?
The one thing that I enjoy
about my job is that it is a challenge.  I'm a
Loan Processor, but I have to also help underwrite the loans,
contact customers, mortgage brokers, make sure the files are all
in compliance with FDIC regulations, and other tasks that I have
to perform.  Also, each client and situation is different, so it's a
really good learning experience since previously I was in retail and
I did not have any real financial experience.

If you could have any job in the world, what would that be? I
wouldn't mind running Starbucks Corp.  I'm a big coffee fan.  Also,
there's a lot of science involved in learning about coffee also,
which I thought is pretty interesting.  It's almost comparable to
learning the science of making wine.

Who is your role model and why? My biggest role model these
days is my sister.  The girl is a risk-taker.  She made a bold move
to the San Francisco Bay Area by herself.  She had a hard time
getting things going at first, but with perseverance, she is now
doing well.  She's very independent, assertive and an energetic
person.

Why did you join the Young Business Council? I originally joined
the YBC because I enjoyed going to the leadership events and
listening to guest speakers.  I enjoyed listening to individual's
success stories, their trials and tribulations, and it gives me
inspiration.  I also enjoy meeting people for different walks of life
in different industries.

What's the most interesting place you've ever traveled to?  My
recent trip to Eastern Canada is currently the most interesting trip
so far.  I visited Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City and Niagra Falls.
That part of Canada is almost European (mostly French) --
especially Montreal and Quebec City.

Where's your favorite pau hana spot?  My favorite spot currently is
Starbucks Ward.  Although, my friend recently introduced me to
this bubble tea shop at McCully Shopping Center, which might be
my new spot.

Name on thing you're really passionate about. I am really
passionate about traveling.  I like the feeling of going to different
places, seeing what they have, learning about the culture of that
area and meeting people.

One thing that most people don't know about you. Many people
don't know that I like to read a lot of history, especially ancient
civilization.
What do you enjoy most/least about your
job?
MOST:  Meeting new people and
providing them "peace of mind" knowing
that their personal and financial affairs are
in order.   LEAST: The death of a client, and
observing first hand how people sometimes
place money before family.

If you could have any job in the world,
what would that be?
Besides my current practice, perhaps a film
Producer/Director (if I could ever spare some time to pursue this
hobby)

Who is your role model and why? Lance Armstrong.  He
exemplifies perserverance, determination and confidence.

Why did you join the Young Business Council? To associate with
new colleagues and friends that I will be in contact with for
decades to come.

What do you think Hawaii leaders should do to improve (select
one: culture & arts, business, social life, economy, etc.)
Business:
Make Hawaii more business friendly by cutting down on state/city
bureaucracy, and taking a more global perspective by realizing
that Hawaii is an international "hub" as opposed to simply a local
island economy.

What’s the most interesting place you’ve ever traveled to?  I've
traveled throughout Europe and Asia, but I liked Vietnam.   It
was interesting to see capitalism and communism in motion.

Where's your favorite pau hana spot? Ryan's (Ward Centre)

Name one thing you're really passionate about. Making sure that I
treat people with respect, regardless of our differences.

One thing that most people don't know about you. I can be very
impatient.  (My wife is teaching me the virtue of patience).
